A West Country timber company has expressed its surprise at finding a group of illegal immigrants in the back of a delivery truck.

Staff at Fountain Timber Products, near Bristol, found the men, believed to be of Indian origin, in the back of a lorry delivering a consignment of sleepers from Belgium last week.

Managing director Richard Goldstone said the men told them they had been in the lorry without food or water for four days. Staff gave them drinks and some of their lunches until the police arrived.

He told TTJ: “It was all very sad, really. The police came within 10 minutes. They were very efficient and we had the lorry returned to use within an hour.”
