The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) has welcomed the new government’s plans to undertake a national tree planting campaign. However, it is urging the government to support this with an effective tree management programme.

On May 20 prime minister David Cameron renewed his election commitment to increase the number of trees in Britain’s towns and cities by up to a million within the term of the new parliament.

“we should welcome more trees in our towns and cities, but this has to be supported by a commitment to effective tree management and research,” said Dr Mark Johnston, ICF fellow and co-author of Trees in Towns II.
