A Hull-based joinery company has been forced into administration following a downturn in trade.

Humber Joiners and its partner construction company Quibell & Son are now in the hands of administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The two companies between them employ 90 staff.

The company had been hit by a fall off in public sector work. In addition, a major contract that would have involved the construction of a large number of wooden holiday lodges has been delayed.

Administrator Mark Loftus of PricewaterhouseCoopers said the company had been reporting losses for a number of years and there was no likelihood of it returning to profitable trading in the foreseeable future.

“Trading has suffered in recent years and the administration is clearly disappointing news for the stakeholders and employees in particular,” he added.

Humber Joiners has been established as one of the major joinery firms in the Hull and east coast area for more than 50 years.

The two other businesses within the group, Quibell & Son Holding Ltd and Quibell & Son Development Ltd, are reported to be trading as normal.
