Firms can have their say on the Health and Safety Commission’s (HSC) plan to introduce a compulsory duty on companies to investigate all reportable work-related accidents, ill health or ‘near misses’.

The HSC is undertaking consultation on its plans, which would require an amendment to present health and safety law.

HSC chairman Bill Callaghan said investigation of incidents and implementation of subsequent safety measures could cut the human and financial cost dramatically.

The HSC’s consultation document can be viewed and downloaded at www.hse.gov.uk/condocs or obtained by calling the Health & Safety Executive on 01787 881165.
