Howarth (Timber Importers) Ltd is launching a new training programme “An introduction to timber” this month.
The company employed a dedicated training manager, Peter Kelly, to write a programme and he is in discussion with City & Guilds to get it professional accreditation.
A member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and an Associate of the Institute of Wood Science, Mr Kelly has been involved in training with both the Timber Trade Federation and TRADA.
The course he has written is delivered in two stages. Stage one involves the completion of two open/flexible learning workbooks while stage two involves candidates attending a two-day intensive training course at Howarth Timber Importers’ New Holland site.
Here they will cover theoretical and practical aspects of the timber trade, culminating in a written examination.
Howarth Timber said the course gives newcomers to the timber trade a more informed understanding while also offering a high potential value to those with experience.
