Howarth Timber has started a major refurbishment programme at its latest acquisition.

The company is spending £100,000 upgrading facilities at its new Bradford branch, J Bland & Co, which it bought from Timbmet. The outlet now trades as Howarth Timber & Building Supplies Bradford.

Changes included a new trade counter and sales areas, improved office facilities and a re-designed yard space.

Howarth said major investments to the site would improve the product range, service and facilities available to customers, with other building materials being added to make the branch both a timber and builders merchant. Improvements are expected to be completed by the end of January.

“We used to have a site in Bradford until about 10 years ago,” said Howarth managing director Nick Howarth. “But the lease came to an end and we couldn’t find a suitable relocation site.”

He said Howarth would look to build up the business’s turnover from the current level of about £100,000 a month.

Timbmet had acquired J Bland when it bought hardwood importer and merchant Atkins & Cripps in 2006.
