Australia’s prime minister John Howard says he will soon unveil a plan which will end old-growth logging in Tasmania but also preserve timber jobs.
Mr Howard hinted that the long-term plan would try to balance forest preservation with jobs, as well as respect for the regional forest agreement.
Opposition leader Mark Latham, whose policy on the Tasmanian forests is also immiment, has criticised Mr Howard’s environmental record.
