Organisers of a timber event in Glasgow are hoping to establish a base from which future research in wood mechanics and properties can be established, using emerging techniques in chemistry and engineering.
Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Glasgow are holding a workshop at the latter’s premises on October 13 to bring together researchers from diverse fields of engineering and science, with expertise that could be applied to wood mechanics and micromechanics.
They hope a foundation can be established from which cross-discipline collaboration for future research can build.
“It is necessary to be able to understand and model wood mechanics and micromechanics in order to produce wood products with improved performance, enhanced quality control and design more adventurous, more efficient and more reliable structures,” they said.
“Emerging techniques in the fields of engineering, chemistry, materials and computer science bring an enormous potential for the investigation of wood materials.”
