Homebase has become the first UK DIY retailer to achieve Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification for its nationwide network of stores.

The company says the certification, issued by the Soil Association, means it can be confident in offering timber products which can be traced from the store right back to the forest.

FSC UK director Anna Jenkins said: “As well as stocking a wide variety of FSC products for the general public, Homebase has now become a new link in the FSC system and will be able to supply timber and wood products to customers who wish to make a full FSC claim on their construction project.”

Homebase has spent the last 10 years working towards nationwide FSC Chain of Custody.

It says the certification endorses the company’s ethical trading principles promoting good forest management to ensure its timber products come from legal and well managed sources.
