The 21-year-old company, already a Holz-Her user, boasts average 60-hour a week working for the last decade and specialises in "prompt turnaround of precision products". This, said managing director Ian Huggins, requires reliable, accurate technology.

S&I’s latest Holz-Her purchases are a Pro-Master 7223 CNC machining centre and a Cut 6120 Dynamic Beam saw linked to a Barbaric 14-pack "chaotic storage", loading and unloading system.

The Pro-Master, says Holz-Her, "bristles with innovative, unique features" and is designed to achieve higher processing rates, while offering "flexible manufacturing for bespoke customer requirements".

It uses a Vario table for automatic workpiece positioning, and its 5-axis Vario automatic positioning aggregate head can use auto tool changing for rapid set-up.

The Cut 6120 saw is linked at S&I to the Barbaric system, which makes maximum use of storage by stacking product in the next available space and recording its position for automatic retrieval.

As panels leave the saw, their bar codes are swiped and the Barbaric sets itself automatically. It also cuts downtime by reading the complete cutting job list and loading the saw in the most productive, efficient way, all the while optimising its storage area for the next job.

Mr Huggins said the technology had boosted panel processing productivity three-fold, while the Holz-Her software had "vastly improved waste optimisation".

"The system has streamlined our panel production and made it more efficient and price competitive," he said.
