Gainsborough-based HLD supplied and built the 61m long curved boardwalk across the park’s lake.

Made from kiln-dried European redwood, the boardwalk features a 21m2 viewing platform with lockable gates and a spindle type balustrade. The platform offers opportunities for ecological study and pond dipping, particularly for schools.

During the construction phase, which had to wait until after nesting season, the lake basin was drained, silt removed and the reed bed area reconstructed. The structure adjusts to several different levels to follow the lake contours.

Dulwich Park, created in 1890 by leading parks designer JJ Sexby, is being restored to its original Victorian glory. The National Lottery has provided a £3.9m grant to pay for the works.
