Helveta (UK) Ltd has signed an exclusive agreement with Société Générale de Surveillance and Liberia’s Forest Development Authority (FDA) to supply and maintain the technology used in a nationwide Liberian timber supply chain management system.

Helveta‘s CI World software will be used to track all of the wood products emanating from the Liberian forestry sector, from standing trees, to wood processing plants and then to the point of export and local wholesale markets.

This will provide the FDA with stump traceability and give it a vital tool in controlling supply chains and collecting revenues from the country’s timber sector.

The technology firm has also signed a five-year deal with Liberia’s FDA t to manage the system and ensure chain of custody and the validity of logging practices.

“The Liberian forest sector is a critical asset for the country’s economic development and this project will enable the FDA to effectively manage the use of those resources,” said FDA managing director John Woods.

“The Liberia project is a cornerstone of our broader regional strategy to bring leading edge technology solutions to empower West African and Congo Basin timber producing nations to effectively manage their forest resources and provide the legally and sustainably produced products required in today’s markets,” said Helveta chief executive officer Patrick Newton.
