A Royal Navy helicopter has helped install two new timber and steel bridges in a remote locaton in South Ayrshire.
The helicopter, from HMS Gannet, was called in because one of the bridges was 12m long and the construction materials weighed in at more than two tonnes. Normal transport methods would have been very difficult over the rough terrain.
HMS Gannet was assisted by a team from Joint Air Delivery Test Evaluation Unit from RAF Brize Norton, who helped with safety and load rigging.
“Using these bridges for training purposes made things more challenging for us than moving drums, which is our normal training load,” said Angela Lewis, from HMS Gannet.
The bridges, in Forestry Commission Scotland’s Changue Forest, were designed by South Ayrshire Council engineers.
