Architects specified hardwood for fencing, bin stores and decking at a new residential development on the outskirts of Glasgow.
International Timber supplied tatajuba for the decking at Haggs Gate because of its darker wood finish, while Keruing was chosen for fencing, posts and bin stores.
All the wood was treated with Seasonite, to protect against bugs and insects, and Textrol for added protection against moisture and UV damage.
“Glasgow suffers from some harsh weather conditions at times, so it was important that all the external timber structures were able to withstand these,” said ZM Architecture’s Richard Pears.
“It is quite uncommon to use hardwoods for such purpose due to the cost, but we felt it was a worthwhile investment due to its durability and the quality of the timber.”
The contract was awarded to International Timber by main contractor AKP, principally because of the company’s ability to source the large quantity of hardwood required in a tight timeframe.
