Office furniture manufacturer Hands of Wycombe has achieved Forest Steward Council (FSC) certification – a major step in its goal to source 100% solid timber and veneer from FSC-certified sources.

Hands, which has been buying timber from managed forests since 1995, underwent certification through BM TRADA Certification‘s TRADA-Trak scheme. It now intends to launch a catalogue of FSC furniture.

Chris Coombs, Hands chief executive, said not all its suppliers could comply with the chain of custody requirements for FSC certification but he hoped they would now review their sourcing policies.

He said: “I have always been passionate about environmental issues, and the FSC certification is an important step forward for all our customers who are concerned about buying furniture made of wood from managed forests.”

Products made by Hands include desks, storage, boardroom, conference and meeting tables and chairs, and reception counters.
