Bradford and Sons Ltd has acquired WJ Handrahan & Son Ltd in a move which will strengthen the Snows Timber business.

Handrahans chairman Bill Handrahan sold the company for an undisclosed sum after deciding to retire.

Timber importer and processor Handrahans operates from two facilities at Holbeache Sawmills, Kingswinford and Sherwood Sawmills in Huthwaite, employing a total of 120 people.

“The acquisition will strengthen our existing Snows Timber business enabling us to deliver our offering to a wider geographical customer base,” said Andrew Merriam, executive chairman of the Bradfords Group.

“Having made the decision to retire, I was anxious that WJ Handrahan & Sons became part of a larger organisation with the necessary resources to continue development of the business,” said Bill Handrahan.
