Associated British Ports (ABP ) employees who handle timber at the Port of Hull are to take part in a new cargo handling safety course.

“ABP Cargo Handling in Ports”, an Institution of Occupational Safety and Health-approved Passport to Safety course, will make workers aware of the dangers they face when handling cargo.

Steve Giblin, ABP’s group safety manager, said he hoped the course would be extended to all workers at the Port of Hull next year.

He said: “We are striving to avoid complacency, ensuring people remain aware of the dangers they could face if they are not constantly vigilant.”
