Australian timber giant Gunns has been asked by Nippon Paper Industries, the largest Japanese buyer of Tasmanian woodchips, to resolve an environmental dispute on old growth logging.

Nippon Paper said it did not want to be dragged into Gunns fight with Greenpeace and the Wilderness Society.

The Wilderness Society last year recruited Greenpeace to help pressure companies buying Gunns’ Tasmanian hardwood pulp chips.
