The protest, an attempt to force woodchipping onto the political agenda in advance of next year’s state elections, focused on the use of native forests by South-East Fibre Products’ Eden mill.

The Chipstop group claims no forests are safe as long as woodchipping of native forests continues. It also says Australia is the only country supplying Japan with woodchips from native forests.

South-East Fibre Products said other countries also supply the Japanese with woodchips from native forests.
