An anti-forestry banner was hung from the roof of the hotel where delegates at the 42nd ITTO session in Port Moresby were staying, which is taking place throughout this week.
The environmental organisation has stated that it wants to see a moratorium brought in to curtail future logging activities in the country and believe that PNG’s forest policies need reviewing.
This includes getting the ITTO to act in order to ensure its practices are geared towards stopping the exploitation of PNG forests.
The week-long event has also seen the ITTO release a report into its first 20 years, which the organisation has said show that it has “been able to develop progressive, internationally agreed policies, to finance projects to assist countries in implementing such policies, and to help strengthen locally based industry and improve forest management”.
