The deal comes nearly a year after environmentalists, the timber industry and First Nation communities in the coastal region reached agreement to end a long battle over protecting wilderness valleys in the area.
Earlier this month, Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper acknowledged that voters felt the government had not made the environment a high enough priority.
Much of the money will be used in small First Nation communities, where unemployment is often more than 70% because of the declining timber industries.
