Authorities in the Philippines have used seized illegal logs to manufacture furniture for schools and hospitals, according to newspaper the Mindanao Examiner.

About 12,000 school chairs and desks, as well as hospital beds have been made for use in several provinces of Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines.

The government said illegal wood had also been used to make beds for soldiers and law enforcement agencies.

A further area on Mindanao – Tagum City – has received about US$464,000 worth of illegal timber to be made into school desks and chairs.
