The government is expected to announce a new ‘minister for manufacturing’ this week.
Alan Johnson, a junior DTI minister responsible for regional policy and employment relations, has been asked to take on a number of manufacturing areas including materials.
The move follows industry and union criticism of the government’s level of help for manufacturing.
