Timber garden products and buildings manufacturer Forest Garden has invested over £200,000 in its first home delivery vehicles.
Previously the company used independent hauliers exclusively to deliver products to site on behalf of its trade customers in the timber and builders merchant and garden centre sectors.
Sales and marketing director John Gomersall said that having its own fleet of 30 vehicles would give it “even greater control over the level of customer service we offer”.
“Our home delivery service is already considered one of the best on the market by trade customers, but the new Forest DDH (delivered direct to home) fleet will be a welcome addition to our third-party haulage network,” he said.
A Forest Garden spokesperson added that the company had recruited and trained drivers to man the new fleet and that the investment also reflected the buoyant state of business.
“Things are good at Forest,” she said. – “And the investment also comes just at the right time to enable the company to handle the peak demand season, just as it’s introducing double shift production.”
The company has also introduced a new online order tracking service which can be used by both trade customers, but is principally aimed at consumers.
“Delivery times can be as little as five days so it’s vital customers keep up to date on their order status,” said Mr Gomersall. “The tracking function enables end users to follow their order rather than having to liaise with the retailer or trade outlet where they made their purchase.”
