MBD says wood is expected to benefit from tighter thermal insulation standards, due to the material’s high insulation properties.

The overall external cladding market is expected to grow by 4% in 2006 to 34.2 million m2 – worth about £1.48bn.

MBD predicts annual market growth to be 1-2% during the next five years, reaching a projected 37.2 million m2 in 2011.

The market share of metal cladding, the largest sector of the UK external cladding market, is expected to decline by 3% in the forecast period, giving it a 67% share in 2011. Composite panels are tipped to see the strongest growth (up 20% in 2006-2011) due to changes in Building Regulations in 2002 and the updated Part L earlier this year.
