A timber frame social housing scheme in Cardiff has been insulated with recycled newspapers collected from local households.
Excel Building Solutions‘ Warmcel 500 insulation was specified for the 140mm deep external walls and 90mm separating walls of the three-to five-bed properties.
Sound transmission tests undertaken by BRE demonstrated that the separating walls’ acoustic insulation significantly exceeded the requirements in Part E of the building regulations.
The homes, developed to meet high levels of sustainability, were sheathed externally with OSB board, with a mix of brick and render cladding providing the external finish.
