The spectacular 300m long roof will comprise 1,500 spruce glulam beams (about 1,000m3), with west and east ends cantilevering 30m out over water.

It will cover a park area above the four-level £500m station.

Wiehag said the roof was probably the biggest glulam contract in the UK to date.

"Iconic landmark buildings like Canary Wharf Crossrail station are an important reference for the whole UK timber industry," said John Spittle, Wiehag’s new UK representative.
