Australia has become the first country to contribute to the World Bank’s Global Forest Alliance.
Foreign affairs minister Alexander Downer and environment and water resources minister Malcolm Turnbull annouced the A$11.7m contribution on July 23 at the High Level Meeting on Forests and Climate held in Sydney.
The multi-million dollar offering is to be taken from the A$200m dollar Global Initiative on Forests and Climate, which has the overall aim of offering practical responses to climate change, forest management and deforestation.
