The company is in the running for the Manufacturing Exporter of the Year Award, awarded to companies who have sought and developed new export markets within their sector.

“Our company has undergone enormous change over the past few years, with the catastrophic collapse of the Irish construction sector,” said Mike Glennon, Glennons’ joint managing director.

“We have fundamentally transformed our business, to now exporting two-thirds of our Irish output.”

In 2009, Glennons said it achieved a first in the history of the Irish and UK sawmilling sector when it sent shipments of homegrown softwood timber to France.

The company remains the only sawmiller in Ireland or the UK to export sawn softwood to France.
