Irish sawmilling boss Mike Glennon has spoken about the importance of using home-grown timber during a presentation at Wood Northern Ireland’s Timber Seminar in Belfast on Wednesday.

Mr Glennon, joint managing director of Glennon Brothers, made an address on “Timber construction and design in Northern Ireland: using sustainable and renewable materials”.

The seminar attracted delegates from across the construction, sawmilling and wider timber industries and was designed to promote the use of timber in construction to a wider audience.

“Irish timber is an under-utilised commodity in Northern Ireland, particularly in construction,” Mr Glennon said. “This has been a fantastic opportunity to emphasise the importance of the application of home-grown timber, especially in terms of meeting sustainability targets and supporting the local economy.”

Afterwards, Mr Glennon said the seminar had been a great opportunity to showcase the company’s commitment to sustainability and its contribution to various sustainable construction projects in the UK and Ireland.
