The Glenalmond Timber Company has taken delivery of its first shipment of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified ‘superdry’ timber from Latvia.

The cargo arrived at Perth Harbour on Saturday, June 8 and will be used in the production of Methven-based Glenalmond’s high performance timber joist product, Ultrajoist (TTJ January 26 and April 27).

The timber is dried to a moisture content of 12%, which is half the current legislative requirement for internal structure products.

On arrival at Glenalmond the timber undergoes a unique treatment to reduce biocides and is given a water repellant coating.

Glenalmond Timber managing director Fraser Steele took Ultrajoist to Interbuild last week for a ‘soft launch’. He expects the product to revolutionise solid timber in the construction industry.
