The deal is being billed as taking Gill & Robinson a “huge step” forward in becoming a one-stop-shop for all its customers, while Kullik & Rullmann expects to develop synergies through cross-selling.
Gill & Robinson owner Ian Robinson stressed that he was not retiring but had been asked to stay on as managing director for at least a further two years. This, he added, meant the company would be run exactly as before.
“One of the main attractions to me was that the German mills Kullik & Rullmann offer completely different products from those that we currently sell from Van Roje, including decking blanks, CLS and grading rejects,” said Mr Robinson.
“We can now even source laminated products and oak flooring from China and American and European hardwoods. Kullik & Rullmann CEO Carsten Kullik said there would be synergies through cross-selling.
“Our German sawmills have a better distribution network in the UK now, and we can offer an extended distribution network for Gill & Robinson sawmills,” he said.
