Ghana’s timber exports rose by 17% during 2007, with an increase in value of 8.3%, according to figures from the latest International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) Tropical Timber Market report.
During the year, export volumes rose to 528,570m3 with a value of €184m. This was coupled with an increase in the value of secondary products generated from the country’s timber industry from €152m in 2006 to €168m in 2007.
Kiln-dried lumber export volumes rose by 6.1% year-on-year to 120,480m3, 22% of the total export volume. This resulted in a 7.7% growth in revenue from kiln dried lumber to €47.51m.
However, the volume and value of air-dried lumber exports fell in 2007 to 85,170m3, with a value of €25.31m.
