First quarter wood product contracts approved and processed in Ghana rose 25% to a total volume of 118,000m³.

All major wood products experienced volume growth, except sawn timber and rotary veneer which slipped marginally in comparison to the previous quarter.

Significant increases were recorded in export volumes of plywood (up 51%), sliced veneer (up 86%), poles/billets and logs (31%) and processed lumber/mouldings (160%), compared to the fourth quarter of 2009.

Sawn timber continued to be the leading export product, accounting for 38% of the total export volume.
