Weyerhaeuser’s Lyptus branded plantation-grown eucalyptus hardwood has been approved as suitable for window manufacture by the German Federation of Window and Curtain Walling Manufacturers (VFF).
VFF has approved Lyptus for making all external windows in residential and commercial applications.
Eike Gehrts, VFF technical consultant Eike Gehrts said Lyptus was among a few plantation-grown “tropical replacement hardwoods” approved for windows which had a guaranteed supply from a proven sustainable source.
Weyerhaeuser’s European commercial director John Guerin said the VFF approval was another breakthrough for those involved in the specification or production of timber products.
Lyptus trees are grown on plantations in Brazil and certified to national sustainable forestry standard Cerflor, which is recognised by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification scheme. Trees are typically harvested after just 14-16 years growth, compared with about 60 years for some tropical species.
