The Association of the German Sawmill & Timber Industry (VDS) is making moves to be more representative of the entire sawmilling industry.

As part of its ambitions, the VDS has been seeking to strengthen the membership of companies based in the south-west state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.

Companies that have rejoined the VDS include Aurnhammer GmbH, Wood Factory Baumann GmbH, SchwörerHaus KG, Gebr Schneider GmbH and Frederick Wahl GmbH & Co.

VDS chairman Reinhard Müller-Gei said the organisation wanted to unite all business under one roof.

A rival sawmilling organisation – the German Association of the Sawmilling & Timber Industry (BSHD) – was set up last year by some of the major German sawmilling companies that complained that there was too much in-fighting between companies in the VDS and a more outward-looking organisation was needed.
