Germany’s Association of Master Carpenters (BDZ) has changed its name to reflect changes in the German timber construction sector.
The association is now Holzbau Deutschland – Timber Construction Germany – and follows similar changes in Austria and Switzerland.
“The name change is based on developments in wooden buildings in the past two decades,” said chairman Ullrich Huth.
“The range of services has greatly expanded. Until 20 years ago, carpentry companies largely built roofs and engineered wood structures.
“Today, the wood construction industry has conquered new markets, with buildings up to seven storeys possible. Timber has established itself not only in private housing, but has also developed in industrial buildings as an alternative to other construction methods.”
Holzbau Deutschland has 14 regional associations throughout Germany.
The European Federation of Timber Construction said the closing of ranks between Austria, Switzerland and Germany would strengthen timber construction at both national and international levels.
