Wood products manufacturer Gapro is to acquire Scandinavia’s biggest hardwood sawmill, WernerTrä.

WernerTrä operates in Södra Vi, Sweden and has an annual production capacity of 42,000m³ of sawn timber, annual sales of SKr40m and employs 20 people.

Gapro is a subsidiary of the Södra economic association, and manufactures mouldings, panels, floors, hobby boards, interior fittings, storage systems, special sections and components. WernerTrä now acts as a subsidiary of Gapro.

The acquisition is part of Gapro’s plan to replace imports with Swedish hardwoods, said president Håkan Svensson.

“We gain an internal supply of much of the hardwood we need for our factory in Grimslöv and we can control volumes, qualities and range in a more effective manner,” said Mr Svensson.

“Instead of purchasing ready-planed items, the mill can now process hardwood within the business the whole way from log to consumer end product.”
