An organisation that will represent the West Midlands furniture industry – the second largest industrial sector in the area – will be launched in January.

Supported by Advantage West Midlands, Furniture West Midlands (FWM) has been created to act for the industry regionally, nationally and internationally.

A steering group made up from members of the region’s furniture industry, was set up 15 months ago and the three key areas it will cover are design, training and marketing.

Chairman Gerry Logue said: “We feel that there is need for an organisation that focuses on the key issues for the West Midlands furniture industry.

“We do not want to be just another organisation, but one that offers genuine support and is of real benefit to the members. The industry is a major part of the regional economy and we all want this to continue and develop for the future.”

The FWM will be launched at the Furniture Show at the NEC, Birmingham on January 25.
