Russian plywood and particleboard demand was boosted last year by a 19% production growth in the country’s furniture industry, say consultants.
Research by Lesprom Industry Consulting found that Russian plywood production increased 7.6% to 1.9 million m3 in 2003, while particleboard output was up 16% to 3.1 million m3.
Russian timber sector growth was 1.5% last year, mainly due to pulp and paper industry growth. Timber production and wood processing declined 1.5% and 5.2% respectively.
