Woodland owners and managers will be updated on the latest challenges to the sector at the Forestry & Timber Association‘s (FTA) biennial England Forestry Conference.

The FTA says current challenges and changes facing the industry include regionalisation, rural delivery arrangements and the English Woodland Grant Scheme and the current grants closure.

The conference, at York on October 14, will focus on the Forestry Commission‘s point of view during the morning session, with the commission’s director-general Tim Rollinson speaking on the outlook for the sector and the FTA’s Level Playing Field manifesto, which will be launched in September. Forestry minister Ben Bradshaw has also been invited to speak.

Afternoon speakers include the Irish Forest Service‘s chief inspector of forests Diarmuid McAree, who will talk about sustainable forestry, and David Wood of AW Jenkinsons who will consider future timber markets, including development of novel markets.
