Pallets made from sustainably managed low grade timber have been launched by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in the US.

The FSC wants to see more ‘junk wood’, sourced from bent and cracked trees which are often not harvested, used for pallets instead of high grade hardwood.

The forest industry estimates about half the hardwood harvested in the US, some of it high grade, goes to make pallets.

The sustainable pallets are made from timber cut in 1.2 million acres of FSC-certified public land in Minnesota.
