The consultation relates to sourcing Controlled Wood (FSC-STD-40-005) and forest management requirements for Controlled Wood (FSC-STD-30-010).

The former applies to chain of custody-certified companies wanting to source Controlled Wood from non-certified suppliers, while the latter is for organisations managing the forests supplying Controlled Wood.

FSC is reviewing Controlled Wood in order to strengthen the system, in particular to beef up requirements for risk determination.
The revised standard 005 now states that the Controlled Wood system will be based on National Risk Assessments as the only source of risk determination.

It also aligns with timber legality legislation and introduces a due diligence system for chain of custody operations sourcing Controlled Wood.
