Brand recognition of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) label in Switzerland is increasing.

A recent survey carried out showed spontaneous recognition of the FSC label to be at 24% of the Swiss population, double the level of four years ago.

Prompted recognition of the FSC label was 67%, bringing the FSC logo nearly on par with well established environmental and social labels like Max Havelaar (Swiss FLO), which has brand recognition of 85%, as well as the Bio Suisse label for organic food and textiles.

A total of 77% of survey respondents said they had seen the FSC label in shops and stores. One-third to half had also seen the logo in newspapers and magazines and on public advertising hoardings.

Sales of FSC-certified products are also increasing, with €170m sold in 2008 – up €13m from the previous year.
