The accreditation ceremony took place in Beijing, China, which is currently playing host to the 45th meeting of the FSC board of directors, and takes the total number of accredited National Initiatives to 43.

“The accreditation of FSC China is a crucial milestone in the progress of responsible forest management and certification in China,” said Grant Rosoman, chairman of the FSC board of directors.

“We look forward to now implementing our work plan and actively promoting forest certification in China.”

UK traders have recently raised concerns about the validity of FSC-certified plywood coming out of China but Mr Rosoman said that there is “enormous opportunity” for China to help turn the national and international wood products sector into a “responsible trade”.
