Deputy prime minister John Prescott travelled to Cornwall recently to see at first hand how timber frame home manufacturer Frame UK had met his challenge to build a house for less than £60,000.
Mr Prescott’s visit came hard on the heels of the official opening of Frame UK’s new Redruth-based factory by the chief executive of the Housing Corporation, Jon Rouse.
Mr Prescott said he was delighted to tour the factory and added: “I am excited to see Frame UK’s new £60,000 affordable home that I challenged the industry to design.”
Frame UK’s Smart House is constructed with enclosed panels and a state-of-the-art roofing system – and it can be assembled in just 24 hours.
Managing director Bob Pepper said: “The revolutionary Smart House was developed in direct response to John Prescott’s challenge of providing affordable housing, which is so important in an area such as the south west where incomes are not keeping pace with ever-increasing house prices.
“It enables local youngsters looking to set up their first home the opportunity of getting on the property ladder. I am delighted Frame UK’s Smart House has the backing of the deputy prime minister.”
