Forest manager fountains plc has recorded a “successful six months” to March, with diversification helping to boost results.

It recorded operating profit of £600,000, up from £300,000 a year ago, with its order book rising from £88m to £105m. Turnover was down slightly from £21.4m to £20.7m.

Banbury-based fountains reported seeing “a higher degree of interest in forest investments around the world” and is currently working on consolidating its forestry services to become a global business.

However, the company said its programme to expand its core business in to new markets, including grounds maintenance and management, had enabled it to achieve even stronger growth.

“We have continued to broaden our markets and services and have won a number of long-term contracts with large companies,” said chief executive officer Richard Haddon.

“Our forward order book is at an all time high and we are tendering for a number of sizeable contracts.”

Mr Haddon added he was optimistic that 2008 “will be another successful year”.
