Environmental services company fountains plc has acquired a US-based Geographic Information System (GIS) services company in an US$850,000 deal.

Applied GIS Inc will now trade as fountains spatial and will offer GIS and related database services to forestry and other landowners, utilities and public corporations in both the UK and US.

Barry Gamble, chairman of fountains plc, said: “The continuing development of geographic information systems and related spatial technologies is enabling us to significantly raise our ability to measure, monitor and report on timber and other land asssets.”

He said the acquisition will improve fountains’ capability to serve existing customers, as well as extending services.
