Throughput of east Asian timber at Forth Ports fell dramatically in the first half of 2002 due to overstocking last year.

Imports fell to only 44,000 tonnes compared with an average of 100,000 tonnes over the past three years. But trade had picked up since the end of June.

Overall, the eastern Scotland and Tilbury port operator reports a 5% increase in pre-tax profits to £14.5m from £13.9m in the same period last year, helped by its redevelopment of Forthside. However, ports’ turnover dropped 3% to £52.9m.
