Forscot, the Scottish company which plans to build a £1bn integrated forest products plant at Invergordon, has published an environmental consultation report on the project.

Prepared by environmental consultancy Environ UK, the report describes the potential impact of the development, which includes a sawmill to provide wood products for the building industry.

Responses are invited from all parties with an interest, expected to include the Highland Council, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and Scottish Natural Heritage. Forscot will then produce its environmental impact assessment to form part of its planning application.

Forscot chairman Ed Gillespie said: “The plant will be a huge economic asset, creating valuable employment in the area. At the same time we want to make sure we do nothing to harm the local environment.”

The project, spurred by the huge quantities of Sikta spruce expected to mature in Scotland, includes an integrated sawmill, pulp mill, paper mill and renewable energy plant.
